HBM

 



HBM stands for High Bandwidth Memory. It is a type of computer memory technology that provides significantly faster data transfer rates and lower power consumption compared to traditional memory technologies like DDR or GDDR.


HBM was developed by AMD in collaboration with Hynix, and it has since been adopted by other companies including Nvidia, Intel, and Xilinx. HBM uses a stacked memory architecture, which means that multiple memory dies are stacked vertically on top of each other, with a layer of silicon through-silicon vias (TSVs) connecting them. This results in a smaller footprint compared to traditional memory technologies and allows for higher capacity memory to be installed in a smaller space.


One of the key advantages of HBM is its high bandwidth, which allows for faster data transfer between the GPU and the memory. HBM achieves this high bandwidth by using a wide memory bus and by using high-speed signaling technology. This makes HBM ideal for use in high-performance computing applications like gaming, artificial intelligence, and machine learning, where fast data transfer rates are critical for achieving optimal performance.
