ROM

ROM

ROM stands for Read-Only Memory. It is a type of computer memory that is used to store data permanently. Unlike RAM, which is volatile and loses its contents when the computer is turned off, ROM is non-volatile and retains its data even when the computer is powered down. The data stored in ROM is usually pre-programmed by the manufacturer and cannot be altered by the user.

ROM is used in a variety of electronic devices, including computers, smartphones, and video game consoles. It is typically used to store firmware, which is software that is programmed onto a hardware device, such as a computer's BIOS or a smartphone's operating system. ROM chips are also used in cartridges for video game consoles, where they contain the game code and data that the console uses to run the game.

One important feature of ROM is that it is read-only, which means that data stored in ROM cannot be altered or deleted. This makes ROM useful for storing critical data that needs to be protected from accidental modification or deletion, such as the firmware of a device.
